al-Habīb Zayn Bin Sumayt, may Allah preserve him, said

the Prophetic Ahl al-Bayt and the Noble Qur’ān

Know that Allāh, Blessed Most High, have distinguished the Prophetic Ahl al-Bayt with khuśūśiyyāt (specialties) which differentiates them from the rest of mankind. He honored and purify them, and removed arjās (filths) from them. He, all-Mighty Most High said, in the perfection of His Revelation,

Allāh indeed intends to remove from all of you dirt, Oh Ahl al-Bayt and to truly purify you.
(al-Ahzāb: 33)

The Messenger, Salutations of Allāh and His Peace upon him, in fact instructed emulation of the Book of Allāh and his ahl al-bayt, and to hold on to the both of them. He named them the thaqalayn (two weighty matters). He said:

The Latīf (Most Sublime), and Khabīr (Most Informed of what one does), informed me that the two will not separate until they both arrive to me at the haudh (lake fount).

and in a narration

Indeed you will not go astray as long as you hold on to these two. Learn from them and do not teach them for they are more knowledgable than you.

asy-Syeikh al-Imām al-‘Allāmah Ahmad Bin Hajar al-Haitamī said in the Śawā’iq:

What is meant is to learn from the ‘ārifūn from amongst them with the Book of Allāh and the Sunnah of the Prophet, Salutations of Allāh and His Peace upon him, and his progeny since they are the ones who will not depart from the Book of Allāh until they arrive at the Haudh. They are distinguished by that. Allāh Most High have honored them with spectacular karamāt (saintly miracles) and numerous virtues.

Indeed, the Prophetic Ahl al-Bayt has been gifted with understanding of the Noble Qur’ān. They had at one time been bestowed with the Pre-existent Knowledge of Allāh, as a favor from Allāh who favors whoever He wishes by His Mercy. Allāh is the Possessor of Magnificent Favors. And for his, Salutations of Allāh and His Peace upon him, amongst many supplications for ‘Ālī and Fātimah, may Allah be pleased with them both, on their wedding night,

«جمع الله شملهما، و اطاب نسلهما، و جعل نسلهما مفاتيح الرحمة و معادن الحكمة و امن الأمة»
May Allāh unite the both of them, make pleasant their descendants, and make their descendants keys of mercy (rahmah), sources of wisdom (hikmah) and security of the Ummah.

al-Imām ‘Alī, may Allah ennoble his face was once asked: Did the Messenger of Allah, Salutstions of Allāh and His Peace upon him, favor the ahl al-Bayt with something with the exclusion of the rest of mankind? He, may Allah be pleased with him said:

No, except that one of us is given understanding of the Book of Allāh.

It has been established that the Prophet of Allāh, Salutations of Allāh and His Peace upon him supplicated for Ibn ‘Abbās, may Allah be pleased with them both by his saying:

اللهم علِّمه الكتاب
Oh Allāh teach him the Book

And in a narration

Oh Allāh give him understanding of the Dīn and teach him ta’wīl

Our master al-Imām ‘abd Allāh bin ‘Alāwī al-Haddād, may Allāh be pleased with him said:

When a human being desires to know himself, he should refer to the Book of Allāh, for it is the Khalīfah of the Prophet of Allāh, Salutations of Allāh and His Peace upon him in his Ummah, as well as the ahl al-Bayt. He, Salutations of Allāh and His Peace upon him said,

I left in your midst the Book of Allāh and my ‘Itrah

If he does not know himself from it then he should ask the Imāms from the ahl al-Bayt for they are the deputies of their grandfather and their inheritors. And they have made tafsīr for the people what is problematic for them from the meanings of the Great Book. If they are unable to find any of them after making an effort to seek them, then they should ask their deputies from other than them, and they are the pious ‘ulamā’.

Our master al-Imām ‘abd Allāh bin Muhsin al-‘Attās may Allah benefit us with him said:

The ahl al-Bayt is a door to the secret treasures (khazāin as-Sir), the keys are with them and the wisdoms (al-Ahkām) are dispersed amongst them. This is because they are the bearers (hamalah) of the Qur’ān, the remaining ones are the deputies of the inheritors. as-sir sirrān: the secrets of the inheritors and it is with them, while the secrets of the shari’ah is with them and with other than them.
